“What?”

Tyler finally looked up.

“I’m finished arguing,” I said. “You have until tomorrow evening to collect anything you left here. After that, I’m changing the locks and returning your spare key to your apartment building’s front desk, Mom.”

“You’d actually do that?”

“Yes,” I answered. “I should’ve done it years ago.”

Richard stared at me for another long moment.

“Family?”

I walked through every room, checking closets, drawers, and the hallway cabinet where my mother had secretly stored extra copies of my house key. I changed the security code, called the alarm company, and removed both of my parents as emergency contacts.
